BUBBLE NEST

Mecanismo Ingenieria is taking part as a Structural Consultants in the BUBBLE NEST project by Dosis Architecture (Isabel Collado and Ignacio Peydro). The project consists of permanent air-supported ETFE greenhouse structures in North London.
Air-supported structures usually need to have airlocks to enter and exit the main space. However, in this proposal with four membranes, the three outer membranes are air supported, and the internal membrane is pressed against a steel nest structure that holds membrane in place.
This allows natural ventilation of the space and freedom of use without the need to create airlock entrances.
In the analysis of this structure, different models have been developed to simulate the outer membranes and their inflation process. A very interesting process that we are thrilled to be working on!
