LOOM Coworking

Metalocus magazine has recently published an article about LOOM Coworking, an old hardware store transformed into an office and coworking space.
Mecanismo Structural Engineering participated as structural consultants for Merlin Properties, supervising the project process and structural work.
The architecture project was developed by Daniel Modòl urbanism+architecture and the structures by Bernuz-Fernández. The construction was carried out by Flulle.

On the five-story building that housed the Balius hardware store, which had already been transformed in the 1970s with a new steel structure,
a new intervention is proposed that removes the added façade, to enhance the existing structure of the old building. which has been left in a green color
similar to the original. The new building program is a coworking space that preserves the details of the old building, adapting the intervention to the scale
and materiality of the residential environment, using traditional materials such as ceramics, iron and wood.

From the point of view of structures, the execution of the shoring of various supports to cut their foundations and the execution of new spaces below
ground level stands out.

The project has been conceived under criteria of sustainability, energy saving and comfort, which have earned it the LEED Gold certification.
