Matadero Madrid celebrates 100 years

Matadero Madrid celebrates 100 years of life of the group of buildings that are today the headquarters of its activity and that constitute one of the most emblematic cultural facilities of the city. This architectural complex, inaugurated in 1924 as a municipal slaughterhouse and livestock markets, is today a center of contemporary creation of international reference. Inspired by the Berlin slaughterhouses of the time, this space is probably one of the best preserved examples in Europe of this model of administrative city.

The different buildings, designed by the architect Luis Bellido at the beginning of the 20th century, remained in use for almost six decades until 1995, when the space was abandoned until 2006. In 2005, a series of architectural actions were initiated with the aim of preparing the space to host cultural activities. The site then became a field of experimentation for architecture, seeking a dialogue between the old and the new. Among all the warehouses that make up the Matadero Madrid complex, Mecanismo Ingeniería has participated as Structure Consultants in the rehabilitation of several of them:

In 2011 with Langarita Navarro in Nave 15 (Red Bull Academy Headquarters).

In 2010 with Arturo Franco in Warehouses 8-9

In 2009 with ICA Arquitectura (Iñaqui Carnicero, I.Vila, A.Virseda) in Hall 16

In 2009 with Arturo Franco in Nave 8b

To commemorate this event, Matadero Madrid has designed a series of free activities for all audiences to be held between October 24 and November 17. From Mecanismo Ingeniería we encourage you all to come to this emblematic venue and to participate in all the activities that are being developed.
