67 Viviendas en Valdebebas

At José Antonio Fernández Ordóñez 8, in the Madrid residential neighborhood of Valdebebas, stand three towers with curved corners. They contain 67 apartments plus retail units and a garage. The outcome of a competition held in March 2017, it is a work of Temperaturas Extremas, an architecture practice led by Atxu Amann, Andrés Cánovas, and Nicolás Maruri. In an area of compact and continuous fronts, the three buildings – containing a total area of 19,751 square meters –are designed in a way that the units face three different directions, without obstacles, and the communal zones have 180-degree views, from the sierra of Madrid all the way to the urban silhouette of the Paseo de la Castellana. The courtyard in this way can disappear, in favor of an inner garden that gets light and also views. The loadbearing structure of the dwellings is pushed to the edges, and the wet areas are clustered together, giving versatility and flexibility.
