Renovation of the base of the columns in the building of the fish auction of the Port of Marín, Pontevedra

Mecanismo Ingeniería developed the project for the renovation of the base of the columns in the building of the fish auction of the Port of Marín and is currently carrying out the site supervisión for the Port Authority of Marín and Ría de Pontevedra. The execution of the work is being carried out by the company Betazul.

The building, built in 1978 in the port of Marín, consists of a longitudinal pavilion on the port dock with a very interesting structural scheme, of isostatic triarticulated reinforced concrete frames in a transverse direction to the berth.

Due to the course of time and the exposure of the building to a very aggressive environment (due to its location and use, with continuous salt water spraying), it has suffered over the years a significant deterioration, especially at the base of the columns, so a renovation work is being carried out in these areas.

The renovation operation is being carried out by means of a provisional shoring of the supports, by means of an auxiliary steel structure against which the supports are unloaded by jacks. Once the supports have been shored up, the concrete at the base of the supports can be chipped for inspection. Based on what is observed in each case, the rebars are replaced and those that can be maintained are repaired. Subsequently, the bases are concreted with a high performance concrete to restore their bearing capacity, at which time the temporary shoring can be removed.
