Zubitegi Sports Park by BEAR Architects
Recently the project of the new Zubitegi Sports Park by the architectural firm BEAR has been published in the magazines Dezeen, Metalocus and Afasia.
Mecanismo Ingeniería has been the Structural Engineering firm in charge of developing the structural execution project.
The project is conceived as an open leisure and sports infrastructure integrated into the natural environment where the old sewage treatment plant of the Gipuzkoan municipality of Mallabia was located.
The structure consists of steel frames with tubular columns and beams with open boyd-type profiles, on which hollow core slabs support the floor slabs. Singular elements are the vaults over the paddle tennis court, whose structural operation is sheet type, as well as the circular walkway, which is configured by means of open steal columns and solid slab floor slabs.
The two ramped pedestrian paths and the spiral staircase provide access along both edges of the park, bridging the difference in level with respect to the nearby road and creating a new route from Mallabia to the neighboring town of Ermua.
