‘Nahinuena’ housing project in Górliz (Vizcaya) by BEAR Arquitectos

At Mecanismo Ingeniería, as structural consultants, we are proud to have been part of the unique ‘Nahinuena’ housing project in Górliz (Vizcaya), an innovative design carried out by architects Ane Arce and Iñigo Berasategui from the BEAR studio which has recently been selected as one of the 16 projects to be presented at the Spanish Pavilion of the 19th Venice Biennale.

The house, narrow and elongated, is strategically supported on the ground, seeking the rocky stratum that ensures the stability of the entire structure. A design was developed that respects the geography of the site, focusing on the use of local and sustainable materials, such as wood, a key element in the project that extends through the structure, as well as in both the interiors and exteriors. This choice strengthens the connection with the environment and minimizes the environmental impact of the project.

The interior porticos of the house function under tension, avoiding possible buckling, which helps maintain stability in a lightweight and efficient framework. In addition, the sawn wood panels stabilize the structure, while the laminated beams and wood particle boards help minimize the carbon footprint during execution.
