Valentín Vallhonrat y Gómez, the Forgotten Pioneer of Reinforced Concrete Construction in Spain

Coinciding with the centenary of what is considered “the first reinforced concrete skyscraper in Spain”, the Banco Pastor building in A Coruña, Jacinto Ruiz and Juan Rey have published an article in the journal Informes de la Construcción about the man who designed its structure and oversaw the execution of the work: Valentín Vallhonrat.

The article, titled “Valentín Vallhonrat y Gómez, the Forgotten Pioneer of Reinforced Concrete Construction in Spain”, traces his biography through the main projects in which he was involved, with particular attention to those that were especially relevant for his company or that represented significant contributions to reinforced concrete construction and architecture.

In doing so, the authors aim to provide a perspective on his career and contributions, reclaiming the legacy of a figure who, despite his importance, has remained unjustly overlooked.
