20 años 20 Obras: Extension of the Winery “Adegas Moure”

Today we present a building of very small scale but we believe that it is of great interest from the architectural and structural point of view. This is the extension of the winery “Adegas Moure” in the Ribeira Sacra (Galicia) for the creation of a viewpoint and tasting area. It is the work of the Galician studio Arrokabe Arquitectos.

The structure is mainly made of acetylated wood, given its high exposure character, although it is also combined with reinforced concrete and steel. The triangular geometry of the wooden piece is unstable in itself, so it is laterally attached to the adjoining concrete piece, which thus provides stability to it.

Did you know that?…. acetylated modified wood, free of biocides, has been used for its high performance in terms of stability and durability. Acetylated wood is the result of a chemical reaction that transforms the hydroxyl groups into acetyl groups by means of an autoclave treatment, impregnating the wood with acetic anhydride. The result is a highly stable and very durable wood, with almost no effect on its main mechanical properties.

The work has been selected for the FAD 2020 Awards, CSCAE 2020 Architecture Awards, Galicia Architecture and Rehabilitation Awards 2020, Wood Design & Building Award 2020, XV BEAU 2021, A+ Awards 2021 and the 18th Buenos Aires Architecture Biennial.
