The building is located in the Prado del Espino industrial estate in Boadilla del Monte, within the metropolitan area of Madrid — a place without identity or references; an uninspiring and challenging context to engage with.
The need for exterior space to accommodate service vehicle parking determines the building’s position on the plot, organizing a clear and efficient ring circulation around the constructed volume. This compact, precise, and assertive mass shifts and orients itself toward the access street to welcome visitors.
A simple yet heterogeneous program organizes the various functions into programmatic bands, each adjoining the next in a continuous sequence. Offices, locker rooms, workshops, and storage areas follow one another in space, grouped into distinct bands legible both in plan and section, generating a peculiar, cut-out silhouette with a variable cross-section.
The described context and the hybrid nature of the program invite the design of a unified building, integrating its public character within an industrial construction system. This functional diversity is disciplined through the consistent use of a single primary material — galvanized corrugated steel sheeting — a clear reference to the industrial surroundings, eschewing scale references while producing a playful composition of light and reflections.
To achieve this, doors and windows are seamlessly integrated into the façade through the use of the same micro-perforated corrugated steel sheets, which also help reduce solar gain. Only the main façade, facing the access, is open, using polycarbonate and glass to engage with the immediate environment.
The structure, composed of steel frames, is resolved through a simple and economical 5×5 m grid. All the aforementioned design decisions reinforce the idea of achieving a balanced and efficient economy of means in the construction of the building — including the details, whose absence makes their intent all the more visible.
